What kind of revolver should I get?

I'm looking to purchase a .38 Revolver in May when I turn 21, mostly just for self defense purposes since I will be home alone with a newborn while my husband works nights. I've always wanted a revolver and I know they have some drawbacks but that's what I want. Is there a specific one that you have used in the past and liked? About how much would it cost? Anything else I should know? Thanks!
