If u have rheumatic fever and discover/treat it early, can u still live a long life or is it a death sentence?

im freaking out that i might have it cuz i feel a pain in my upper back..sometimes when i exhale..im not sure if the pain is in my head or not. but if i have it, is it a death sentence or can i treat it and live a productive life?
